Synopsis:
At the movie's beginning, a frightened woman is with her son, telling him that he has to be strong and that everything is going to be okay. They are packing a suitcase, when she hears something coming towards the door and makes her son hide under the bed. The door bursts open and something throws the woman against the wall. The son, terrified, runs out of the room and into his equally scared sister. She grabs him and runs down the stairs. The boy hides under a table, but his sister is caught and pushed over the stair railings and is obviously injured. She then crawls to the boy and tells him to run, and soon she is dragged to the cellar as her nails scratch on the floor. The boy runs into the kitchen and hides in a cabinet. He is in the dark except for a crack of light that goes down the middle of his face. The light gets wider as he is found and pulled out. The sequence then ends.

Five years later, a new family from Chicago moves into the house, hoping to start a sunflower farm. The main character, the teenage daughter in the family, Jess Solomon, is upset about having to move away from her friends. Prior to the events in movie, she had driven drunk with her younger brother, Ben, a toddler at the time, in the car with her. In her intoxicated state, she got into an accident. Her little brother was injured and as a result, was hospitalized and does not speak. Also due to the accident, her father, Roy and mother, Denise, have a hard time trusting their daughter. The father, Roy Solomon, who grew up in the next county and has previous farming experience, moves his family to the farm believing the move will heal his family.

Ominous events gradually build. The house always seems to have crows flying around it. Some crows even attack Roy, but are driven off by a drifter named John Burwell, whom Roy then hires to help him work the farm. Ben sees the ghosts of the mother and children in the house, although they do not seem to scare him. Jess is aware of their presence but cannot initially see them until they attempt to drag her into the cellar. The adults have no perception of them at all. Jess has an encounter with one of the ghosts, the sister, in the cellar. Afterward, she calls 9-1-1 and the police arrive, but find nothing. They find it as a false alarm and Jess' parents do not believe her either. While Ben saw what happened, being very young and mute he cannot confirm her story. Only Bobby, a teenage boy from town whom Jess befriends, supports her.

Jess and Ben have more encounters with the ghosts haunting the house. One encounter in particular, an attack that occurs in the barn, results in Jess acquiring some cuts and bruises. While in the barn, Jess sees a little boy, arms around his legs, his back toward Jess. When she tries to ask him if he's okay, he does not reply. She then comes closer to the boy. The boy turns around and reveals his face, his eyes white, his skin pale and with grey cuts on his face. Later, Jess is rushed to the hospital. Her parents think that her wounds are self-inflicted because she wants to leave the house and return to the city, and they will not believe that ghosts are haunting it. Because her parents do not believe her, tensions rise and Jess becomes determined to fix things.

Jess later finds out more details about the previous owners of the house, the Rollins family. According to the locals, the Rollins had lived in the house, but left suddenly six years before. However, at a local store Jess sees a picture of the family, with the father revealed to be none other than John Burwell, who has always been kind to her. As it turns out, John Burwell is actually John Rollins, the head of the Rollins family and the man who, in a fit of madness, killed his family. Frightened and anxious, Jess takes Bobby back to the house to warn her family before it is too late.

Back at home, Jess' mother, Denise, is putting Ben to sleep when she notices the blood spot on the wall coming back even though she has already cleaned it. This is the spot where the mother, Mary Rollins, was thrown against the wall. Suddenly Denise sees the spirit of the mother coming out of the bloodstain on the wall. Terrified and determined to leave, Denise packs suitcases and places them on the front porch. John, after being attacked by crows, is confused and believes Denise is his wife Mary, trying to leave him in the same way Mary had, years before. He runs to the house to attack Denise, believing that she is his wife. Denise grabs Ben and runs into the cellar to hide from their attacker.

Bobby and Jess arrive and Jess calls for her mother and father. John attacks them from behind with a pitchfork, knocking Bobby out in the process. Jess runs into the cellar and bolts the door. While John is looking for some way to get into the cellar, Jess finds Denise and Ben and together further barricade the door, block all the windows and breaks the light bulbs so they can stay hidden in darkness. John is able to get into the cellar and looks around for the three, still believing they are his family. Roy arrives to help Ben and Denise, but is stabbed by John with the pitchfork. However, John's ghostly family arise from the their graves beneath the cellar and grab their patriarch. As his family vengefully pull him to join them underground, John grabs Jess' leg to save himself from sinking below. Jess' parents work together to save their daughter by pulling her free from John's grip before he sinks beneath the cellar with his family.

Thanks to Bobby, the police and paramedics arrive shortly after the attack ends. Roy is loaded into the ambulance so his wounds can be tended to and both he and Denise apologize to Jess for not believing her and promise to never doubt her again. As the film ends, things return to normal. The crows no longer attack, the ghosts stop appearing and Ben starts talking again. The family appears to be normal once more and the house and land look better than ever.

Synopsis:
The Goonies, a group of teenage friends living in the "Goon Docks" neighborhood of Astoria, Oregon, face foreclosure on their families' homes from the expanding Astoria Country Club. On one of their last days their morale sinks particularly low due to Mikey's older brother having failed his driver's license exam, thwarting their plans to "cruise in style". While rummaging through the Walshs' attic, they find an old newspaper clipping, a Spanish map, and an artifact relating to a rumor of a forgotten pirate treasure somewhere in the area. Hearing the call of adventure, Mikey tries to persuade his friends to join him in search for the treasure hoarded by a pirate named One-Eyed Willie. Initially reluctant, the group eventually decides to evade the authority of Mikey's older brother, Brandon, and escape for one last "Goonie adventure".

They head to the coast and stumble upon a derelict seaside restaurant that seems to match coordinates set by the map and an old doubloon, unaware that the Fratellis, a family of fugitives, are using the restaurant as their hideout. After first encountering the family, the Goonies come back after the Fratellis have left and discover their criminal intents, and send Chunk, the group's clumsy, heavy-set dreamer and teller of tall tales, to get help. However, the Fratellis return before they can leave, forcing the Goonies to use a cavern underneath the restaurant to escape. The Fratellis capture Chunk and interrogate him to find the rest of the Goonies, learning nothing until a pack of bats come out of the cavern beneath the restaurant. Chunk is placed in the same room with the forsaken and deformed Fratelli brother, Sloth, while the rest of the Fratellis enter the cavern and follow the Goonies' trail.

As the Goonies traverse the cavern, Mikey discovers that it matches up with the map and convinces the rest of the group to continue to follow it to find the treasure. They overcome many deadly traps set by One-Eyed Willie, and eventually arrive at a large underground cavern and a lagoon where Willie's ship, The Inferno, rests floating. While others begin to fill their pockets with the riches on the ship, Mikey finds Willie's skeleton, and reverently acknowledges him as the "first Goonie", leaving part of the treasure with him as tribute. However, as the Goonies exit the hold, they are caught by the Fratellis, who take their treasure and force the kids to walk the plank. The Goonies are saved by the timely arrival of Chunk and Sloth, now close friends, who help the rest of the group to shore. With the children no longer a threat, the Fratellis ransack the rest of the ship, including the share of the treasure Mikey left for Willie. This sets off a final booby trap, causing the cave to begin collapsing. The Goonies flee through a hole in the cave, finding themselves on a beach. Two passing policemen spot them and call in for help.

The Goonies are soon reunited with their parents while the Fratellis are arrested, and Chunk offers to take Sloth into his home. As Mikey frets about the end of their last adventure, Rosalita, the Walsh's maid, discovers that Mikey's marble bag contains a large handful of jewels taken from the ship, and Mikey's dad quickly estimates that its value is more than enough to save everyone's homes. As the families celebrate, they spot the unmanned Inferno, now free of the cave, sailing away.

Synopsis:
Wearing rayon suits, Speedo trunks, hair gel and cologne, wealthy Yemenite-American brothers Steve (Will Ferrell) and Doug Butabi (Chris Kattan) enjoy frequenting nightclubs, where they bob their heads in unison to dance music (specifically Haddaway's hit song "What Is Love") and fail miserably at picking up women. Their dream is to party at the Roxbury, a fabled nightclub where they are continually denied entrance by a hulking bouncer (Michael Clarke Duncan).

By day, the brothers work at a fake-plant store owned by their wealthy father, Kamehl Butabi (Dan Hedaya). They spend most of their time goofing off, daydreaming about opening a club as cool as the Roxbury together, and Doug uses credit card transactions as an excuse to hit on a phone approval operator. They also have an annoying habit of overenthusiastically retelling to everyone they stand in line with their story of how they met Emilio Estevez while waiting in line to use a payphone. Also not amusing to anyone but themselves is a supposed joke in which they "trick" a questioner by answering, "No" before switching to their "real" answer, "Yes." Walking down to their father's store, to the beat of "Stayin Alive", they try to pick a girl (Gina Mari) walking toward them, only to get beaten up by her.

The store shares a wall with a lighting emporium owned by Fred Sanderson (Dwayne Hickman of Dobie Gillis fame). Both Mr. Butabi and Mr. Sanderson hope that Steve and Emily (Molly Shannon), Sanderson's daughter, will marry, uniting the families and the businesses to form the first plant-lamp emporium.

After a day at the beach, in which the Doug and Steve try to pick up women while wearing matching thongs, the brothers decide that tonight is the night they will finally get into the Roxbury. Returning home to the gauchely decorated bedroom they share, Doug, still wearing the same outfit as at the beach, gets into a heated argument with their father about going out clubbing instead of staying home. (Their father has planned a dinner party with Emily and her parents.) The angered Mr. Butabi then denies them access to their BMW car and to their cell phones. Given enormous cell phones by their mother (Loni Anderson) and allowed use of the fake-plant store's delivery van, they are quickly rejected by the doorman (Michael Clarke Duncan). After discovering they might bribe their way into the club, the brothers drive around looking for an ATM. They get into a fender-bender with Richard Grieco (playing himself) and, to avoid a lawsuit, Grieco uses his fame to get them into the popular club. There they meet the owner of the Roxbury, Benny Zadir (Chazz Palminteri), who listens to their ideas for a nightclub of their own. He likes them and sets up a meeting with them for the next day. The brothers also meet a pair of women at the Roxbury: Vivica (Gigi Rice) and Cambi (Elisa Donovan), who see them talking to Zadir and think that the brothers are rich.
On the way to the after party at Mr. Zadir's house, the brothers annoy his driver and bodyguard Dooey (Colin Quinn) by making him stop to buy fluffy whip and making jokes about sleeping with his mother and father. As revenge, the next day Dooey denies them entry into Zadir's office for their meeting. He tells the brothers that Zadir was drunk out of his mind last night and doesn't know who they are, though Zadir really does want to see them (but does not have their contact information). Afterwards, the girls break up with the Butabi brothers after realizing they're not really wealthy. The brothers fight and Doug moves out of their shared bedroom and into the guest house. Meanwhile Steve is forced into an engagement with the Sandersons' daughter, Emily. The wedding is held in the backyard of the Butabi residence, but is interrupted by Doug: having gone on a fluffy-whip-fueled bender, he stands atop the guest house staircase with a boom-box blasting the song "What Is Love" (an allusion to the movie Say Anything...).

As Doug begins bobbing his head, Steve cannot help but mimic his brother, a sign that he is beginning to remember what he really wants and who he truly is. Steve breaks off the marriage to Emily and departs. In an act of desperation, Steve's former personal trainer/friend/best man Craig (Lochlyn Munro) opts to marry Emily, admitting his longtime crush on her. Emily agrees to marry Craig as long as he promises to invest in infomercials and protein bars. Meanwhile, Richard Grieco (a guest at the wedding) talks to Mr. Butabi to help him understand that Steve was not ready for marriage, and that Butabi is too hard on Doug. The brothers forgive each other and then proceed to go clubbing in their new colored suits.

The movie ends as the Butabi brothers happen upon a hot new club opened by Zadir. The building is unique in that the exterior is constructed to resemble the interior of a nightclub, and the interior resembles a street — this was an idea pitched by Doug and Steve earlier in the movie. Attempting to enter, they are surprised to find their names on the VIP list. In addition, Zadir reveals that to reward their idea, he has made them part-owners of the club. Their new-found success comes full circle when they meet another two women in the club: Doug's phone representative from the credit card company (Meredith Scott Lynn) and a police officer (Jennifer Coolidge) whom Steve earlier flirted with while getting a ticket. Out on the dance floor, Doug, Steve, and the two women begin to bob their heads in unison to "What Is Love," and all the other nightclub patrons do the same.
